Laptop SSD Upgrade Near Delhi: Cloning, Compatibility and Care

Delhi laptop owners: here is what to know about SSD compatibility and data migration before booking an upgrade with us.

Technician installing an M.2 SSD into a laptop

An SSD upgrade is one of the most popular services at our workshop in Gwal Pahari, Gurugram — close to the South Delhi border. If you are in Delhi and want to speed up your laptop, here is what to know before booking.

Check your current drive

Open Task Manager → Performance → Disk. If it shows HDD, an SSD upgrade will make a big difference. If it already shows SSD, you may benefit more from additional storage or RAM.

Compatibility basics

  • 2.5" SATA: common in older laptops.
  • M.2 SATA: slim card format, SATA speed.
  • M.2 NVMe: fastest common format, used in most modern laptops.
  • Second slot: some laptops can hold both the old drive and a new SSD.

Your model number tells us which formats fit.

Need a technician? If your laptop is slow to start, struggles with multitasking or is running out of space, a FixMyTech technician can check upgrade options for your exact model and move your data across. Book an SSD or RAM upgrade online, call 085950 05049 or visit our workshop at Shop No. 71 New, Gwal Pahari, Gurugram.

Cloning vs clean installation

Cloning copies everything — Windows, apps, settings and files — to the SSD. Good if your system is working well.

Clean installation installs fresh Windows on the SSD and moves your files. Good if the laptop was slow, cluttered or infected. Read clean install vs reset.

Choosing the right size

  • 256GB: enough for Windows, Office and browsing if most files live in the cloud.
  • 512GB: the sweet spot for most users, with room for photos, apps and updates.
  • 1TB or more: for large photo and video libraries, games or design work.

Remember that Windows itself, its updates and recovery partitions take a noticeable share of space. Running an SSD nearly full slows it down, so aim to keep some headroom. If you are unsure, tell us roughly how much space you use now and we will recommend a size for your model.

Signs your laptop will benefit most

  • It takes a long time to reach the desktop after switching on.
  • Disk usage sits at 100% in Task Manager while apps load.
  • Windows updates take hours.
  • You hear the drive clicking or whirring.

Before you visit

  1. Back up important files.
  2. Note software licences and logins.
  3. Book online with your laptop model.
  4. Bring the charger.

After the upgrade

  • Keep at least 15–20% free space for best performance.
  • Enable TRIM (Windows does this automatically for SSDs).
  • Do not defragment SSDs — Windows optimises them correctly.
