Printer Repair

Ink Tank Printer Not Printing Properly? Causes and Fixes

Ink tank printers are economical but sensitive to blocked nozzles and air in the lines. Here is how to fix poor prints.

Ink tank printer with colour ink bottles

Ink tank printers are popular in homes and small offices across Gurugram and Delhi NCR because refilling is simple and running costs are low. But they can develop problems such as blank pages, faded prints and missing colours — often after a period of not being used. Here is how to fix them.

Common symptoms

  • Blank pages even though tanks are full.
  • One colour missing (often black or cyan).
  • Horizontal lines or banding across prints.
  • Faded prints.
  • Ink smudges or leaks.

Cause 1: Dried or blocked nozzles

When the printer is not used for weeks, ink can dry in the print-head nozzles.

Fix: Run a nozzle check from the printer menu or software. If lines are missing, run head cleaning once or twice, then check again. Avoid repeated cleaning cycles back-to-back, as they use a lot of ink and can fill the waste ink pad.

Cause 2: Air in the ink lines

Air bubbles in the tubes block ink flow, especially after the tanks run very low or the printer is moved.

Fix: Some models have a power cleaning or ink flush option. Keep tanks above the minimum line.

Cause 3: Wrong or poor-quality ink

Non-recommended inks can cause clogging and colour problems.

Fix: Use ink recommended for your printer model.

Cause 4: Paper or settings

Glossy paper with plain-paper settings, or vice versa, can cause smudging.

Fix: Match the paper type in print settings.

Cause 5: Waste ink pad full

Many ink tank printers show an error when the internal waste ink pad is full.

Fix: This needs servicing — the pad must be replaced or serviced and the counter reset.

Prevent future problems

  • Print a colour page every week to keep nozzles flowing.
  • Keep the printer covered to reduce dust.
  • Do not let tanks run dry.
  • Do not tilt or move the printer with full tanks unless the transport lock is engaged.

When to get it repaired

If nozzle checks still show gaps after cleaning, ink is not flowing from a tank, or the printer shows a waste-pad or service error, book a repair. At FixMyTech in Gurugram we check the print head, ink lines and service counters and share an estimate first.
