7 Signs Your Laptop Is Overheating (and What to Do)

Loud fans, sudden shutdowns and slowdowns can all point to heat. Here is how to spot overheating early and what you can safely do at home.

Computer cooling fan and heatsink

Heat is one of the most common reasons laptops slow down or shut off unexpectedly — especially in a warm Gurugram summer. Spotting it early can prevent bigger problems.

Common signs

  1. The fan runs loudly even when you are only browsing.
  2. The base or keyboard feels very hot to touch.
  3. Games or video calls stutter after a few minutes.
  4. The laptop shuts down without warning under load.
  5. Hot air barely comes out of the vents.
  6. The battery drains faster than before.
  7. You hear rattling or grinding from the fan.

Safe things you can try

  • Use the laptop on a hard, flat surface — not a bed or cushion.
  • Keep vents clear and avoid direct sunlight.
  • Close apps you aren’t using and check Task Manager for anything using high CPU.
  • Install pending system and driver updates.

When to get it checked

If the fan is noisy or rattling, or the laptop still shuts down, the cooling system may need internal cleaning, fresh thermal paste or a new fan. See our overheating and fan repair service or book a repair — we’ll inspect it and share an estimate before any work.
